Senate Bill aims to recall Call Centers back to US

Listen to article

Senators Ruben Gallego and Jim Justice have introduced the Keep Call Centers in America Act of 2025, a bill designed to curb the offshoring of call center jobs and safeguard U.S. workers.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, call centers employ around 3 million Americans, yet projections show a potential loss of 150,000 jobs by 2033 due to outsourcing and automation. The act requires businesses to notify the Department of Labor 120 days before relocating work overseas, and employers who offshore will appear on a public list for five years.

Companies on the list risk losing eligibility for federal grants and loans, while contracts will prioritize U.S. employers keeping jobs local. The measure also mandates transparency, with call workers disclosing if AI or offshore centers handle inquiries.

Endorsed by the Communications Workers of America, the bill aims to keep customer service work stateside.

Call centers are losing money because of AI. Most, if not all of them, will be closing soon. Yet the US wants to bring it back to their country? LOL!
