Sony announces that it will form a new company that aims to “deploy new services toward the ever-expanding smart device market.” Simply put, they will be making PlayStation games available for iOS and Android.
Called the ForwardWorks Corporation, it will make use of Sony’s intellectual property rights for a number of PlayStation-exclusive titles/characters and port them over to devices running the aforementioned operating systems. This means we could see old characters (like Crash Bandicoot, Parappa the Rapper, Spyro the Dragon, etc.) in upcoming games real soon.
Do take note that the company won’t just make use of emulators to be able to play old games, but develop new ones that revolve around characters and games that we’ve all grown to love.
These upcoming full-fledged, smartphone-compatible games will be available for users in Japan and the rest of Asia.
ForwardWorks will begin operations starting April 1, 2016.
