Twitter exploring emoji-style reactions

From OG stars to hearts and then to possibly emoji reactions, Twitter is considering a change in how people engage with tweets.

Surveys from Twitter proposed different sets of reaction emojis like the heart, laughing face, thinking face, and crying emoji for their platform.

“We’re exploring additional ways for people to express themselves in conversations happening on Twitter,” a Twitter spokesperson said of the survey.

The company has been surveying users throughout the month to get input on how they feel about a broader set of emoji-style reactions, TechCrunch reports.

The survey questions demonstrated that Twitter is aware of the challenges that would come along the platform with the inclusion of emojis. Twitter also asked how users would feel if their own tweets would be downvoted and whether that would discourage them from future tweets.

Twitter mentioned that the company understands the ambiguous implications of having the options to either upvote or downvote a tweet, which may cause a chilling effect on Twitter usage.

Twitter told TechCrunch that the purpose of this survey is to keep its users more engage and aware of tweets context-wise. Twitter Chief Design Officer Dantley Davis even replied to a user’s request to test emoji reactions.

We can only wait and see what will happen on the Twitter platform, so stay tuned for future updates!
