US ban on TikTok undone, Trump credited for restored service

Listen to article

The US ban on TikTok has been undone with President-elect Trump being credited for the restored service. However, the app is still unavailable for download in the Play Store and App Store at the time of writing.

For those that missed it, the app went dark with over 170 million users losing access in the country. Prior to this, Trump said he would make efforts to halt the ban with an executive order.

The initial plan was to give ByteDance more time to find an approved buyer before their app was fully banned. While this was set to occur once he took office, the app was restored on Inauguration Day instead.

As per this post on X, Trump was credited for TikTok’s return within less than a day of being banned.

TikTok also added that Trump will be working with them towards a solution to fully reinstate the app. This is set to develop further once he takes office on January 20, 2025 in US time.
