Will the base Apple iPhone 17 finally get flagship displays?

Listen to article

With the impending release of the upcoming Apple iPhone 17 family, we’re starting to get more and more information regarding these devices. The rumor mill finally leaked some information about the vanilla iPhone 17’s display.

Based on reports, the vanilla Apple iPhone 17 will finally receive a 6.3-inch display. Supporting this claim is popular mobile phone case manufacturer Spigen, who accidentally posted the same display size in a listing teaser. This is a welcome change since the previous generation iPhone 16 carried a 6.1-inch display, despite also having the Dynamic Island previously exclusive to the Pro lineup. For the first time, both vanilla and Pro models will be having the exact same screen size.

And the improvements to the vanilla iPhone 17’s display don’t just seem to be size. It’s also reported to receive a welcome (and long overdue) upgrade to 120Hz, another feature previously gatekept from base users. With most of the smartphone world rendering 60Hz obsolete (in anything but entry-level devices), this can be a huge step for the base spec iPhone.

One thing that’ll be kept to the Pro models, though, is the ProMotion technology. This means that the iPhone 17 is unlikely to have an adaptive refresh rate – leading to more power consumption.

Other interesting news regarding the iPhone 17 talks about new Purple and Green release colors, among other information. We’ll keep you posted once we know more.

But for now, is this display upgrade enough to convince you?
