YouTube has just announced that the YouTube Music app will enable background playback for free. The new feature will be first available in Canada starting November 3, 2021.

Previously, background playback was only available for users who subscribe to YouTube Premium. This update allows people to continuously listen to music even when they exit the YouTube Music app.

This free version is ad-supported and will feature a “radio-like” experience, according to YouTube. Moreover, the company says that it will also roll out personalized playlists for the user, as well as personalized mixes. Google Assistant driving mode also will be available for a hands-free YouTube Music experience.
