Dell XPS 15 Hands-on, First Impressions

Dell has officially launched their best consumer laptop to date — the XPS 15. Although, they did not bring the top of the line notebook with a crisp QHD touch display and offers the Full HD non-touch model. Let’s have a quick look at the Dell XPS 15.

At first glance, the XPS 15 main attraction really is its InfinityEdge display that is virtually borderless compared to most notebooks in the market today. What we have here is a matte panel to keep it glare-free and Dell claims it to have 100% coverage of the Adobe RGB color space.

The whole body of the notebook is made of a combination of aluminum and polycarbonate. There’s even a touch of carbon fiber to make it even more appealing to users in terms of design.

Despite being a powerful 15-incher, the ports on the XPS 15 is rather limited. On its right, we have the SD card reader, USB 3.0 with PowerShare, LED indicators for battery level, and a Kensington lock slot.

On the left is the AC power for charging, a USB 3.1 Gen 2 port, full-size HDMI, Thunderbolt 3, and a 3.5mm combo jack.

We have a front-firing stereo speaker which is positioned on the arched bottom plate. There are also vent holes at the bottom with the labels and serial numbers hidden under the flap in the middle.

Indeed, the XPS 15 feels premium when used. The firm hinge shows strong resistance for a wiggle-free display but it’s also easy to adjust when needed. The keyboard sports backlighting but lacks a numeric keypad.

The version to hit the local shelves will have a 6th-Gen Intel Core i7-6700HQ, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB PCIe SSD, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M with 2GB DDR5. With these specifications, the XPS 15 positions itself to be a MacBook Pro 15″ competitor running Windows 10. If you’re looking for a similar Mac notebook, then this is a great option to consider.
