The MediaTek Kompanio 540 is now official. This new octa-core chipset is built for Chromebooks, expected to be available January 2026.

It can handle browsing, streaming, and working applications. Notable titles include Tinkercad (STEM tool) and Minecraft Education Edition. Aside from its ARM Cortex-A78 CPUs, it has a dual-core graphics engine, support for LPDDR5 memory, and UFS 3.1 storage.
Plus, it has a video decoding engine to help with high-resolution streaming even with use of an external display. As per MediaTek, Chromebooks powered by the Kompanio 540 offer up to 35% longer battery life compared to other options.

The new chip helps with a day’s worth of use, and allows for fanless operation. Interested readers can check it out via MediaTek’s official website as it’s already live.
