Counterpoint Research Global PC tracker has shown a decline in global PC shipments in Q1 2022.
According to the company, there was a 4.3% decline year-on-year in global PC shipments. 78.7 million units were moved in the first quarter of 2022.
Companies such as Lenovo and HP saw a decline in shipments while Dell, Apple, and other brands barely saw any growth in sales year-on-year. Lenovo maintained its lead in the global PC market in Q1 2022 with a 23.1% share, which was down a little compared to 2021. The brand’s total shipments of 18.2 million units were down 9.5% YoY. Lenovo performed well during the pandemic largely due to its in-house manufacturing and operation control. This advantage will continue to help the company in times of demand uncertainty or component supply issues.
HP took a 20.2% share to capture the second spot. The company saw a 16% YoY decline in shipments largely due to Chromebook losing momentum and consumer demand weakness.
Contributing factors entering the year were the supply chain component shortages and logistic issues. It also warned that the current lockdowns and virus countermeasures may also disrupt movement of products for the 2nd quarter of 2022. The current inflation and crisis in Europe may also be a contributing factor that can affect PC shipments for Q2, 2022.
