Galaxy Z TriFold durability put to the test by YouTubers

Listen to article

A group of Korean YouTubers is testing how durable the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is by repeatedly folding and unfolding the phone on a livestream, and the device has already passed 150,000 folds without breaking.

The test started more than a week ago and is still ongoing. The YouTubers are folding the Galaxy Z TriFold’s two hinges nonstop to see how long the device can last under heavy use. On Day 8 of the test, they streamed for over three hours and reached the 150,000-fold mark.

During the livestream, the group noted changes in the hinge. After around 145,000 folds, the hinge began to lose resistance and felt much smoother. They also reported hearing creaking sounds earlier in the test. Despite these signs, the phone continued to function normally.

Samsung claims that the Galaxy Z TriFold’s display can handle up to 200,000 folding cycles. This number is based on an estimate of about 100 folds per day for five years. For most users, this is far more than normal daily use, even for a large foldable device like the TriFold.

For comparison, Samsung has said the Galaxy Z Fold 7 can last up to 500,000 folds. Previous tests on that model showed it still working after 200,000 manual folds. The TriFold test is still ongoing, and viewers are watching closely to see how far it can go.
