The standalone apps, Hyperlapse and Boomerang, were quietly removed from Google Play and Apple App Store. As spotted by TechCrunch, Instagram will be focusing its efforts on Reels which will be a rival to the short-video platforms like TikTok.

Hyperlapse And Boomerang Disappeared In App Stores

A statement was released by a representative explaining the removal of the two apps. It says,

“We’ve removed support for the standalone Boomerang and Hyperlapse apps to better focus our efforts on the main app. Boomerang is still supported in-app in Stories, and Layout remains a standalone app in the Store. We’ll continue working on new ways for people to be creative and have fun on Instagram.”

Despite losing the two apps, one source said that Instagram integrated many features into the app itself. It is said that doing all things in one app will keep users satisfied due to singular app experience.
