Today, the Department of Transportation-Land Transportation Office (DOTr-LTO) rolled out driver’s license cards with five-year validity at the LTO main office on East Avenue, Quezon City. Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade congratulates LTO chief Edgar Galvante in addressing the problem of driver's license card processing. Galvante mentioned that those who will apply for new driver's license and those who will renew old ones will receive their plastic cards on the same day. A comparison between the 3-year validity driver's license cards, and the 5-year validity driver's license cards were also shown during the official rollout. Galvante said that the new plastic license cards, which are laser engraved and made of polycarbonate material, are not only durable but also have several security features. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will begin to roll out driver's license cards with 10-year validity to motorists with no traffic violations, as announced by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade. Secretary Tugade also revealed that the backlog on driver's licenses was addressed. The DOTr also noted that 27,620,091 driver's license cards and permits had been issued from July 2016 to March 30, 2021. This year, the LTO will begin distributing driver's licenses with 10-year validity. Motorists who are waiting to get their car plates and driver's license cards will have to wait longer as officials of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said that it is expected to arrive in the second quarter of 2017.
