Wi-Tribe Philippines did a soft launch recently offering WiMax broadband internet in Metro Manila. to provide faster internet services for their subscribers. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has released the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) for the Konektadong Pinoy (KP) Act, a move expected to make internet services cheaper, faster, and more accessible nationwide. DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said the government is targeting at least a 40% drop in internet prices by 2026, which could boost the Philippines’ ranking in ASEAN for internet affordability. The new rules aim to simplify permits, speed up registration, and encourage more competition among internet providers, including foreign companies already planning to enter the Philippine market. A month later, PHP 2.78 billion was collected from the non-resident digital service providers. In addition, the collection rate reflects more digital spending and improved monitoring of cross-border service providers.
