Due to the recent problems with heavy traffic both in EDSA and with the very long lines in the MRT during peak hours, the MMDA and MRT will begin implementing mobile phone number coding to all commuters starting today. The Unified Commuter Number Coding Scheme will attempt to reduce traffic in MRT and LRT stations as well as buses in EDSA. Traffic enforcers will man bus lanes and MRT stations to check the ending number of mobile phones by commuters to enforce this. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has teamed up with SM Supermalls to help commuters stay informed about traffic conditions across Metro Manila. The new project brings live CCTV traffic feeds from MMDA cameras to selected SM malls, starting with SM Megamall. During the launch on Wednesday, MMDA Chair Romando “Don” Artes said the screens show real-time traffic along nearby roads, including key parts of EDSA. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has added GCash as a new way for drivers to pay traffic fines, MMDA Chairman Atty. Artes said the changes are part of the MMDA’s effort to improve transparency and provide easier access to traffic information for drivers across Metro Manila.
