Akamai's quarterly report is already out and it's got some pretty interesting numbers about the state of mobile internet in the country. The Akamai State of the Internet for Q3 2016 shows a light of hope for the Philippine mobile internet scene. While it may seem too good to be true, the average connection speed (IPv4) for mobile connections in the country is now 13.9Mbps. Although, as indicated in the report, this was achieved with less than 25,000 unique IPv4 addresses classified as mobile. The improved numbers in mobile internet speed come after the roll out of new LTE frequencies and expansion of coverage. In the latest Akamai State of the Internet Report for Q2 2016, the Philippines ranked 6th in mobile internet speed in Asia Pacific. With an average speed of 8.5Mbps, the Philippines outranked Singapore which got 8.1Mbps and Hong Kong at 5.7Mbps. In the same report, the Philippines also got an average of 4.3Mbps (fixed broadband speed) for the same quarter. Device usage in the Philippines remains heavily mobile-driven, with 96% of traffic coming from smartphones.
