Netflix has retracted the anti-password sharing measures they had recently posted, claiming that it was only an error. A Netflix spokesperson confirmed to The Streamable that the anti-password sharing rules are in fact implemented in three countries, but ‘not yet’ in the US or anywhere else. Nonetheless, it remains uncertain whether the procedures used in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru will serve as the basis for paid-sharing in other countries. Likewise, this mishap was already hinting Netflix’s true objective or if it will come up with different approach to curb password sharing. The company still intends to announce its new efforts to limit password sharing by the end of March. Discovery’s Q2 earnings call, streaming chief JB Perrette signaled a shift from polite nudges to no-nonsense enforcement of its password-sharing rules. Starting September 2025, users sharing accounts outside their household will face firm prompts and even restrictions, unless they pay a fee of roughly US $7.99/month to add an authorized Extra Member.
