It's been confirmed that Qualcomm has agreed to buy NXP Seminconductors in a deal worth $39 billion. Qualcomm is the largest chip manufacturers for smartphones while NXP is also a huge player in the automotive industry. Last year, NXP bought out Freescale Semiconductors (a rival company that started out as a division of Motorola until it divested in 2003) for $11.8 billion. With NXP in the fold, Qualcomm is expecting to enter the automotive industry as it diversifies its business. It’s also the first smartphone to run on Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip, paired with up to 16GB of RAM for fast and stable performance.
