In a move that could help counter the effect of Western Digital's acquisition of Hitachi, Samsung is also merging its storage division with Seagate. Seagate will now be running Samsung's HDD operations and merging it with its own storage solutions. On the other hand, Samsung will have partial ownership of Seagate. The much awaited Omnia i900 from Samsung (see specs here) was released in the Philippines yesterday. While everybody is getting frustrated with the supposed Globe iPhone 3G pricing, the Samsung Omnia will definitely be a formidable alternative to the former. The rumored new Samsung i8510 that tows in an 8-megapixel camera and a 16GB internal storage becomes official. This new Samsung i8510 phone will be named Innovate or Innov8. I reckon that the Samsung i8510 is positioned against the Nokia N95 while the Omnia is targetted as an iPhone alternative.
