Half a decade ago, having able to transact with your bank online is just a new idea. Today, it looks like banks are heavily promoting their online banking portals. But do people really use it?
If Alexa is any indicator, BPIExpressOnline is a popular destination with a rank of 19,817 and peaking at 20,000 uniques a day per Google Trends. Our poll this week asks if people really use the online services of their banks. Here are some of the options:
I have something 7 accounts on 5 different banks and only use online banking in half of them to pay utility bills, credit cards and receive Paypal fund transfers. I liked BPI and BDO while Metrobank’s site is still IE-only even after a revamp.
Please proceed to the poll section on the right and submit your answers (or lave a comment and let us know which banking service you liked the most).

Yes, I regularly use online banking services of my bank. Everyone with an account and internet access should do too.

– Yes, I regularly use online banking services of my bank.
I use 2 online banking, BDO and Union Bank. I appreciate more of BDO’s but the downside is it lacks reporting information’s on my transactions.
Union Bank however is good with it’s reports but the password expires every 60 days, and i have to call my branch to update my password.
online banking is good to pay bills and convenient to view your moolah status, if someone deposits payment or you already got salary. Before it was Jurassic to go to an ATM machine to check it.
Ardz says:
I use online banking regularly especially when paying by card bills and doing fund transfers from a city branch to a provincial branch. I like bpiexpressonline but the enrollment of bill payments at the bank defeats the purpose of online banking. Metrobankdirect is better in this case since they have already pre-enrolled many merchants for your bill payments.
whaâ„¢ says:
i’d love to do online banking but i only have 20k in my bdo accnt… will it be possible to enroll in to online banking?
-anton- says:
OT: same question with Jayson above. Has Globe already put a cap on P2P? And oh boy has my net connection this 2 weeks been so slow and “paputol putol”
Lyn says:
I do online banking for my HSBC account – to pay my bills and transfer funds. Very convenient!
Enteng says:
Yep, I do.. on all my accounts, and CC’s as well. It’s less hassle, no falling in-line.. day or night.

No credit cards or online payment of bills for me.

While scanning through forums today, I’ve rounded that BPI has garnered by far, the most positive remarks.
I’ve been hearing a lot of good news about BPI like the uncompromising salary and great benefits they shower their employees with. So it’s no wonder the IT department keeps the site in tip-top shape.
For skeptics and those who don’t know which banks to choose from, you might as well type in “[Bank Name] sucks” in the Google Search Form to get a more realistic view on how users rate their banks. It may save you the future hassle of fund transfer delays or glitches.
Andre Marcelo-Tanner says:
i use HSBC, Unionbank, BDO, BPI
HSBC is really good
BDO is so so
Unionbank is ok but annoying at times.
I think BPI has the best since it can let you do so much for corporate accounts like pay SSS, BIR, Philhealth, bills, forex, salaries etc etc etc. and you can transfer to it from Xoom almost instantly. BDO on the other hand is limited in internet services.
Oh citibank is ok for CC and paying bills but thats all.
I’d rate BPI and HSBC as top
zch24 says:
I use Bancnetonline to pay phone and utility bills. So far so good. I also wish that they would include loan payments (Chinatrust, to be more specific) on the transaction types.

– EastWest – To view recent credit card transactions and balance.

Ton says:
Been a BPIexpressonline ever since it started. Excellent. Best one I’ve used so far (I’ve used quite a few), especially since their upgrade. I do all my banking online, except for the occasional cash deposits. Makes me wonder sometimes why drones of people still line up in banks to pay bills :)
BDO does not report transactions accurately. Database fetching and sorting is off, and some details are left out (check numbers for example). It such a simple issue that they can’t address, its now becoming very annoying.
Glenn Ong says:
Yes, I use online banking very often to pay utility and credit card bills. It really saves time and efforts!
I go to BPI to view statements, pay DSL/credit card bills, and reload my prepaid phone; HSBC to pay all utility bills. But I plan to transfer paying utility bills through BPI, since the rewards system is much more applicable to me, plus it doesn’t need a security device to login. Haha.
czaroma says:
Yes I do online banking and find it very convenient. I use it to check our account balances, pay credit card bills, transfer funds and receive payments as well.
I find BPI express online better than HSBC and BDO.

But my question is how secure is it?

They let you pay so many important merchants.
They give you points for your online transactions.
I don’t have to go to long lines just to pay for our bills and I get free food on the side!
I love BPI.
