E-jeeps to ply the routes of EDSA by March 2014

Nagiging bahagi ng isang bagong modyo ng pag-uupo sa EDSA hanggang sa pagkabuo ng kwarta. Isang limang KOMO o City Optimized Managed Environmental Transport ay gagampanan upang magbibigay ng serbisyo sa mga pasahero ng lungsod.

Si Reynaldo Dy, COO ng Global Electric Transportation, ay nagdadala sa isang pahangahan na dahil sa e-jeepney, na praktikalang nagbibigay ng enerhiya sa pamamagitan ng elektrikong kagamitan, hindi kaagad nagpakita ng kalinisan sa naibabang EDSA. Dahil dito, ang e-jeepney ay pa rin mahal na magpalanas kaysa sa mga jeepney na nagpalanas ng diesel, na ₱1,000–₱1,200, kapag ₱400–₱500 lamang ang bayad ng e-jeepney sa parehong distansya.

Aside from the being electric-powered, the COMET e-jeeps have WiFi, a TV, and a CCTV on board. Also, COMET has air suspension that permits the vehicle to descend for special passengers to get on and off with ease. Floods won't be a problem too, but that is something we have to see yet. The charging time of COMET will be about 5 hours using 220v of electricity.

The route will start from North EDSA to EDSA-Ortigas. Fares are still the same with mandatory fare issued to diesel-powered jeepneys but your cash won't be accepted as you should use a dedicated prepaid card.

This project is still in its infancy, so overhead costs might be a lot higher. Pag may nag breakdown na piyesa yan ewan ko kung matutuwa mga namamahala diyan hehe.

Based from our latest cost-benefit analysis and industry research, the money saved due to lower diesel price is still better than getting a gasoline fed car with lower cost parts. So a lower electricity cost can still give a better gain unless if the cost of the electricity goes sky high on par with the diesel cost. The question here is how many kilometers can it run on a single charge. That may become the deal breaker for me.

tiwala ako na hindi magastos maintenance nito lalo na kung mechanical spare parts ang paguusapan…hindi p maramihan ang paggawa nito at hindi naman mahal bawat unit nito kaya sigurado ako na common parts lng gamit nila…isang halimbawa eh ung body frame nito eh gawa lng sa tubular steel na bukod sa mura eh makakakita ka kahit san. cguro magkakatalo n lng sa longevity ng electrical system sana tumagal bago mapalitan ung mga components.

ang alam dadaan yan ng c5 rather than edsa. Oo, magsisimula siya sa trinoma at magtatapos sa megamall pero hindi yan dadaan ng edsa.

one thing for sure, magiging inconvenience yung prepaid card sa mga sasakay sa mga gitna ng routa dahil effort maglagay ng mga prepaid booths.

one more thing, dahil may wifi, magiging takaw holdap/snatching tulad sa nangyayari sa mga wifi bus. walang kwenta ang cctv kapag hindi naman mahuli at mabawi ang mga magnanakaw. Sayang pa naman sa battery yung wifi.

Maybe better na lang na classic pasa ng bayad instead ng prepaid card at wag na lang lagyan ng wifi.

Good idea with minor problems though.

I think the reason they decided to use prepaid cards is that the old system of “bayad po” wasn’t working.

Because hindi sweldado yung drivers, they would randomly stop at busy streets to pick up passengers, which ends up causing A LOT of traffic. With the prepaid cards, the money goes directly to the company, which will be the one to give a fixed salary to the driver.

As such, hindi na basta titigil-tigil yung mga jeep kung saan saan, which is the biggest problem this will help solve, imo.

Maybe in their next iterations. Right now, that will just consume more power from the battery which lessens the vehicles range. Maybe the target right now is penetrations and acceptance of this new vehicle by lowering cost of production and with the same fare.

ayus to, kaso sana ung designer nito eh ginawa man lang na kamukha pa rin ng jeep, kahit minimalist na ung design para andun pa rin ung trademark design ng traditional jeepney.

True! I understand you, but if we incorporate the traditional jeepney styles, it will add complexity to the design of the e-jeep. Kung papansinin mo, wala ngang design ung e-jeep eh, as in sobrang simpleng molding lang ung ginawa, maybe to bring the prices lower. kesa ung dadagdagan ng intricate designs ng traditional jeeps.

Yun lang, if e-jeeps will ply edsa, san sila? Private lanes? Sana lang makayanan nyan ang traffic.

@daniel if this will be bilt on small-scale production, tama ka pero xempre dadami din ang mga tao na gusto bilhin to for business,pag naging alrgescale na ung production kahit ganu pa kakumplikado ung design d na makakapekto sa presyo =)@Benchmark kung gagamit naman ng lightweight materials tulad ng aluminum eh d to masyadong makakaapekto sa bigat ng sasakyan =) pag maramihan na ang production nito im sure gagawin na din nilang aluminum ang body nito =)
