0:00The Vivo V series has always been about
0:02blending sleek design with strong camera
0:04capabilities. [music] And one thing’s
0:05for sure, the new Vivo V70 retains that
0:08formula while bringing some key upgrades
0:09here [music] and there. It’s got an
0:11updated look, a stronger build along
0:13with the usuals like the Zeiss optics,
0:15solid battery life, and [music]
0:16efficient performance. But does keeping
0:19the same formula still work for the Vivo
0:20V70 this time around? I’m your host,
0:23Earl, and let’s find out in this review.
0:24[music]
0:32Right off the bat, the updated design is
0:34the most obvious change, and I’d say
0:35that’s an improvement. [music] Coming
0:37from the V60 with a curved edge design,
0:39the V70 has a boxier look. It has a flat
0:42frame, which is now made of aluminium,
0:44by the way, along with a flat display.
0:46To me, this is a nice design change as
0:48it makes it look and feel more premium
0:50in hand. The ovalshaped camera deco that
0:53has been used for years is finally gone
0:55and now replaced by square shaped
0:57island. It feels like the material used
0:59here is metal and it protrudes quite a
1:01bit. No complaints there. It’s honestly
1:03a welcome design change. Another change
1:05is the smaller size from having a 6.77
1:08in display on the V60. The new V70 has a
1:126.59 in screen diagonally adding a
1:14slightly more comfortable grip. Our unit
1:17is in the golden hour colorway and
1:18you’ve guessed it. The back panel shows
1:21this gradient-like iridescent effect
1:22that dynamically shift colors depending
1:25on how the light hits it. It can go from
1:27purple to yellow and to mostly pink if
1:29you were to see it in [music] person.
1:30Now, for extra protection, the V70 is
1:33both IP68 and 69 rating that provide
1:36protection against ingress of dust and
1:38even prolong submersion underwater.
1:40There’s also a free transparent jelly
1:41case in the box for extra peace of mind.
1:43For IO’s, the power button and the
1:45volume rocker are found on the right
1:46side while there’s nothing on the left.
1:48The top has a mic, the IR blaster, and
1:51one of the serious speakers. And at the
1:53bottom, there’s a SIM tray USBC, another
1:55mic, and the other loudspeaker.
1:57Design-wise, I think I appreciated all
1:59the changes Vivo made here. They finally
2:01got rid of that similar and identical
2:03look they use over the years and opted
2:05for a fresher look, and I personally
2:07like that. Moving on to the display,
2:09like I said earlier, the V70 now
2:11features a smaller 6.59 in AMOLED
2:14display with 1.5K resolution and 120 Hz
2:17of refresh rate. It has fairly thin
2:19bezels and I’m glad to see it looks
2:21uniform on all sides. In daily use, its
2:23display is easily one of the main
2:25highlights of the phone. Text and images
2:27looks crisp and the AMOLED screen
2:29provides those vibrant colors and deep
2:30blacks we expect. The high refresh rate
2:32also makes scrolling through social
2:34media and switching between apps feel
2:35smooth. I have never experienced any lag
2:38and I like how consistent the V70 in
2:40this regard, especially if you’re
2:41someone who doom scrolls a lot. During
2:43my time with a phone, watching content
2:45is an enjoyable experience, especially
2:47with a loud sound stage. It can easily
2:48fill up a small room. While the highs
2:50and mid sounds nice and clear, the bass
2:52lacks a bit punch to my liking. That’s
2:54where the V70 falls short, but audio
2:57loudness can make up for it. Not to
2:59mention, the stereo audio makes the
3:00watching experience a bit more
3:01immersive. For biometric security, the
3:04Vivo V70 handles both face and
3:06fingerprint unlock, the latter of which
3:07is now using an ultrasonic sensor. Now,
3:10that might seem small of an upgrade
3:11compared to the optical sensor from the
3:13V60. It registers my fingerprint faster
3:16and more reliably. It even works with a
3:18damp finger, so it’s surely a nice
3:20upgrade. We all know that the Vivo V
3:21series’s focus has always been
3:23photography, and the Zeiss collaboration
3:25is here to stay, which is a good thing.
3:27The Vivo V70 carries a quad camera setup
3:29co-engineered with Zeiss. From the back,
3:31there are the 50 MP main shooter with
3:33OIS, a 50 MP telephoto, also with OIS,
3:37and an 8 MP ultra wide lens. Up front,
3:40there’s a 50 MP selfie snapper with
3:42autofocus. Daylight shot provides sharp
3:44detail near accurate colors and good
3:46dynamic range. The Z tuning makes the
3:48images look more natural, although in
3:50most shots, the colors lean more toward
3:52warmer tones. [music] Even at night or
3:54in low light, the main sensor still does
3:56a good job at preserving detail in nice
3:58[music] colors. And if there’s no light
4:00source at all, the so-called oral light
4:02is actually useful in this situation.
4:03[music]
4:04Portraits looks nice as well. Thanks to
4:06the telephoto camera with three times
4:08optical zoom, focal length such as 85 mm
4:11and 100 mm possible to do with a Vivo
4:13V70. We tried these ourselves, and as
4:16you can see in these sample shots, the
4:18details still look decently sharp even
4:20when the subject is far. It technically
4:22can reach up to a maximum of 100 times
4:24digital zoom, but expect the output
4:26won’t be as sharp as those taken at
4:28three times or up to 10 times zoom.
4:29Meanwhile, the ultra wide camera does a
4:31decent job, although it won’t quite
4:33match the level of detail from the main
4:35sensor or telephoto lenses. Still, it
4:38comes handy for landscapes or group
4:40shots. For selfies, I like how every
4:42shot turned out well, providing good
4:44clarity and fairly accurate skin [music]
4:46color and texture. By default, it can
4:48shoot at one time zoom, but then it
4:50automatically adjusts to 0.8 [music]
4:52time zoom when it detects two or more
4:54people in the shot. As for video
4:56recording, the V70 can finally record 4K
4:58at 60 frames per second. And the best
5:01part, that’s possible using both the
5:03rear and front cameras. So, that’s quite
5:05an improvement from the V60, which was
5:07[music] capped at 4K at 30 frames per
5:08second. One thing I noticed, though, is
5:10that these 4K 60 frames per second
5:12videos are somehow shaky, even if Vivo
5:15says it has OIS support. There are the
5:17standard and ultra stabilization in the
5:19camera settings that you can toggle
5:20before recording to help stabilize the
5:22footage. However, if you’re going to
5:24enable ultra stabilization, the
5:26resolution will be limited to 1080p at
5:2830 frames per second. In addition, Vivo
5:31has included an AI audio noise eraser,
5:33which reduces background noise in
5:35videos, so voices remain clearer in
5:37recordings. It’s not perfect at getting
5:39rid of the noise, but it will mostly be
5:42useful for vlogging or capturing clips
5:43in busy environment. And for even more
5:46freedom at tweaking your photos, there
5:47are a bunch of AI tools available in the
5:49albums app, including AI erase, AI image
5:52expander and AI enhancement. These let
5:55you remove clutter, reposition subjects,
5:57and further enhance clarity without
5:59needing third party app. So peeps, early
6:01Fig. Right now, we’re using the
6:02front-facing camera of the Vivo V70, and
6:05it’s shooting at 4K at 60 frames per
6:07second. So this is the sample video of
6:10it, and that’s it.
6:15>> [music]
6:21[music]
6:29>> Under the hood, the V70 is equipped with
6:31a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, and our
6:34unit comes with 8 gig of RAM and 256 gig
6:37of internal storage. There’s a memory
6:39extension feature that adds another 8
6:41gig RAM and it’s enabled by default. So
6:43that’s something to know of. Looking at
6:45our benchmark results, the V70 achieved
6:47an N22 score of over 1.4 million with
6:49version 11. We also tested it with
6:52version 10 and it got result of over 1.1
6:54million. That’s a tad bit higher than
6:56the V60 with a 100,000 point difference
6:59[music]
6:59and that’s mainly because they’re using
7:01the same chipset. The improvements it
7:03got is probably due to a more superior
7:05software, Origin OS 6. and we’ll talk
7:08more about it in a sec. So, there’s
7:09that. If you’re interested in the
7:11numbers slashing the rest of the
7:12benchmark scores right here. [music]
7:24In real world use, the phone performs
7:26well with smooth multitasking and
7:27gaming. Titles like Genchin Impact and
7:29Weathering Waves are playable given that
7:31you set the graphics settings to medium
7:33and 60 frames per second. Meanwhile,
7:35less demanding games like Mobile Legends
7:37and PUBG Mobile run smoothly at high
7:39graphics settings, even at 120 frames
7:41per second. Thermal management is also
7:44quite good on the V70. There was a
7:46slight heat up during gameplay, but not
7:48to a point that’s alarmingly hot.
7:50Perhaps this is because of the large
7:51cooling system that helps keep the
7:53device cool enough even during long
7:55playthroughs or demanding tasks like
7:57video editing. Sure, the Snapdragon 7
7:59Gen 4 is a carryover from the previous
8:01[music] iterations, and it would have
8:03been better off with something like the
8:05Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. There’s a probably
8:07good reason why Vivo decided to retain
8:09this chip despite the fact it remains
8:12capable enough to handle your daily task
8:13smoothly. Stuff like messaging, browsing
8:16the web or social media, and using
8:18productivity apps did not slow down the
8:20phone or whatnot. Another thing to talk
8:22about is that shiny new Android skin.
8:24The Vivo V70 is now shipped with Origin
8:26OS 6 on top of Android 16 out of the
8:29box. As compared to Fun Touch OS, it
8:31offers tons more customization features,
8:34smoother animations, and even a nicer UI
8:36design. From the lock screen to home
8:38screen and to the icons, everything has
8:40been updated. I even like this PopMart
8:42theme available here on the lock screen,
8:44which is apparently an exclusive for the
8:46Vivo V70. There are still some bloatware
8:49apps pre-installed, but as always, they
8:51can be easily removed. As for its update
8:53policy, Vivo is promising up to four
8:55major OS upgrades and six years of
8:57security patches for the Vivo V70.
9:00Battery life is another strong point of
9:01the Vivo V70. It still carries a 6,500
9:05mAh unit and hold your horses. I know
9:08what you’re thinking. It retained the
9:09same battery capacity. What’s so special
9:12about it? Here’s [music] the thing. If
9:13we were to compare the battery life
9:14results between the V70 and its
9:17predecessor, the newer model passed 27
9:19hours and 35 minutes of runtime, which
9:22is significantly longer than the V60s 22
9:24hours in 6 minutes. And like I mentioned
9:26earlier, the new Origin OS 6 might just
9:29be a key factor here. With that kind of
9:31result, it shows the Vivo V70 has a more
9:34optimized software. [music] But I
9:35digress. Going back to the battery life,
9:37the phone can easily last a couple of
9:39days on a single charge with typical
9:41use. If the battery runs low, the 90
9:43watts charging support can get the
9:45device from zero to 100% in just about
9:47an hour. Plus, it has bypass charging
9:50support for those wondering.
9:51Connectivity wise, the VO V70 supports
9:54dual nano SIM with 5G, dualband Wi-Fi,
9:57Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and IR blaster.
10:00Unfortunately, it still doesn’t have an
10:02eim support, which can be a real bummer
10:04considering its upper mid-range [music]
10:06pricing, which we’ll talk about next.
10:08The Vivo V70 starts at 31,999
10:11pesos for the 8 gig plus 256 gig model
10:14and it jumps to 39,999
10:17pesos for the 12 gig plus 512 gig
10:19config. That said, here’s what I think
10:21about the Vivo V70. In its own right,
10:24the V70 delivers a balanced experience
10:26that emphasizes design, great cameras,
10:29and battery life. Its size optics with
10:32telephoto capabilities and an efficient
10:34battery life are clear highlights that
10:36make it stand out in its class. However,
10:38the price might be hard to justify for
10:40what it offers. Not to mention, the
10:42chipset is technically a carryover from
10:44its predecessor and the other
10:46improvements experience-wise were
10:48incremental to say the least. Still, for
10:50users who prioritize photography,
10:52battery endurance, and subjectively
10:54stylish design, the V70 checks [music]
10:57out. Say you’re coming from the Vivo
10:59V60, an upgrade anytime soon won’t be
11:01necessary. But if you have been using an
11:04older Vivo phone or if you’re coming
11:06from other Android brands, then the Vivo
11:08V70 presents itself nicely. [music] And
11:11that’s about it. What do you think about
11:12the Vivo V70? We’d love to hear your
11:15thoughts in the comments below. If you
