Different kernels and hardware compatibility issue ang dahilan why 7.8 cannot be upgraded to windows 8. Those who are using win8 need not to worry because the hardware itself is upgradeable to win 9. This has been confirmed by windows.

I read in phonearena na pede nga iupgrade from 8 to 9 yung current phones ngayon which is sana totoo. You can not trust Microsoft. Remember when they promised na yung Windows 7.5 phones is upgradable to Windows 8, then biglang bawi.

Microsoft disappointed WP7 users especially Lumia 800/900, HTC Titan. Microsoft did not inform new owners of WP7 users that they will not be able to upgrade their devices to WP8. I will never buy a Windows Phone again til apps and features (File explorer) will be cross platform. I’m going back to Android for my next phone. At least, in Android there is an option for Cyanogenmod.

– Kuya ko, gamit niya Alcatel na Gingerbread, tumatakbo yung Temple Run. Kaoffice mate ko dito, gamit niya is Galaxy Note na ICS, tumatakbo Temple Run. I am using Nexus 4, tumatakbo Temple Run. So no compatibility issue.

Pagkaka alam ko rin, iba yung kernel(?) ng WP 8 sa WP 7.8/.5 kaya kung mag uupgrade ng 7.5->8, kailangan pa ata ng ireflash (the old way, yung may pag tinker pa sa hardware, di basta software lang) yung phone, eh since walang gamit para dito ang typical na consumer ay di na lang nila ginawa. Olats ata sila sa operation costs kapag ginawa nila yun. Kaya ayun pinanganak ang WP7.8 para sa kanila. :D

Atleast pag Windows phone alam mo na masusupport hanggang sa huli kahit lowend o high end. Di gaya ng Android. Yung mga galaxy Y may jelly bean na nasa ginger bread pa din. Yung S3 mini kakalabas pa lng hindi na agad ma uupdate sa key lime pie. Masyadong fragmented. Di gaya ng WP at IOS pag may update lahat ng handset makakakuha. Kawawa ung mga low end and midrange devices naiiwanan sa ere. SA WP8 lahat may update di lang ung flagship.

Galaxy Mini is committed atleast to Android 4.2.2 . Atleast, even midrange Android phones gets updated to the next version.

Fragmentation? All platform has issue regarding fragmentation, including Windows and iOS. Sa Android, kahit idevelop mo yung Apps for ICS/Jellybean, it will still run sa Gingerbread. Kung nakagamit ka na nang SDK, you know what I mean. Eh sa Windows 8, yung mga apps ba niyan eh backward compatible, same with iOS?

@thecorrescode i disagree with backwards compatibility ng apps sa android, i know meron pero same as iOS and WP di lahat ng devices supported, look at temple run, will it run smoothly or operate with galaxy y? i’m an android lover pero di natin makakaila na madami pa din flaw ang android with updates, and lahat naman may pros and cons eh, kaya no need na pag awayan to. in the end sa umpisa ka lang excited sa new handset mo after a few weeks/months pangtext or pangtawag mo na lang yan. :)
You don’t understand the difference between backward compatibility and hardware limitation. Kapag sinabing backward compatibility, ibig sabihin what you code for the new OS, may run on old OS. Sa case ng Galaxy Y, it is the hardware limitation na. Failure na nang developer yun to tag kung hanggang anong specs lang pede yun apps nia.
For example, Skyrim may run on Windows XP, thus backward compatible. Pero kung yung Windows XP mo is 256MB memory lang which is norm for that OS, dont expect na tatakbo ng mabilis Skyrim. That is hardware limitation.

Mukhang hindi. Yung Windows 7.5 users nga nila hindi eligible for update sa Windows 8. Malamang, ganyan ulit mangyayari.
That’s a different story. The hardware for those phones are not capable to handle WP8.

Sa kabilang banda, even a two-years old Android hardware is capable of running the latest Android OS. For example, Nexus S which is a single core and released in 2010 is perfectly capable of running Jellybean which is release in 2012. Even yung lumang iPhone 3GS, capable of running the latest iOS.
Yung nexus line ng google ay ginawa para sure na may matatanggap ka na update for the next few iterations of the os..
So dito natin pag basehan, yung HTC unit na halos kasabay lumabas ng nexus S, hanggang saang version ng android siya officially supported ng HTC? yung mga LG units, gaano kadalas sila makatikim ng update? (balita ko hirap mga user nila makatikim ng update. balita lang naman hehe.)
Balita ko rin yung S2 at yung old Notes eh di na rin daw aabot ng android 5.0 sa official support ng samsung. So romhacks na lang siguro para umabot yung S2 ko ng Key lime pie/5.0?
The point is they are still upgraded to the next version. For example, Galaxy S2 started out with Gingerbread which is version 2.3.x pa, and upgradable to 4.2.2. HTC Sensation started out as Android 2.3.x and now nasa Android 4.0.4 na siya.
Eh yung Windows Phone ba na yan, makakatikim ba ng same support as the S2 and HTC. After Windows 7.5, inupdate ba sila to version 8. Hindi naman dba. Nagoffer lang ng 7.8 which is basically just a change sa homr screen.
