Ookla March 2022: Philippine internet speeds continue to improve

In its latest update on internet speeds in the Philippines, Ookla noted improvements in both mobile and fixed broadband speeds. The median speed for mobile increased from 18.79 Mbps in February to 19.38 Mbps in March, a change of 3.14 percent. For fixed broadband, meanwhile, the median speed went up to 52.16 Mbps in March from 49.10 Mbps in February. This represented a change of 6.23 percent.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) attributes this improvement to President Rodrigo Duterte’s mandate to advance improvements in telco services and ensure that the country’s internet speed and quality keep up with the rest of the Southeast Asian countries. Among the policies introduced is the “common tower” policy, which guidelines were issued through their Department Circular (DC) No. 008, s. 2020.
