I was answering a couple of interview questions for a local business daily when the issue if blogging has matured in this small corner of the blogosphere popped.
When I look back at blogging a couple years back, I’d say that we’re more active than ever in the blogosphere but has it actually matured? Does it need some sort of metrics? What are the indicators? Or is it just a perception?
Whenever I go back and check the list of nominees in the blog awards, I look at them as a good sample size of the Philippine blogosphere. Here are the ranks of blogs and bloggers that more or less make up the face of blogging in our country. What does that list represent?
Two years ago, you couldn’t even categorize the blogs and identify their niche. Now, I’m glad to see that all those main categorize have at least 4 or 5 nominees in them. And that’s a good sign.
Maybe next year, we’ll see more on those list. I’m just a little concerned with podcasting. I think we need to do some more promotion in that area. (Time for a YugaTech Podcast?);)

Blogging just needs a push from bigger industries like the Online Gaming sect. Imagine how big the Pinoy blogsphere would be if 50% of the gamers here would start their own blog? >.>
The possibilities are endless, all we need is more imagination.
Before asking if blogging has matured in the country, ask first:
- How can we define maturity?
- How can we measure it? What variables do we have to take into consideration?
Then again, even without definite answers to those questions, we can still try to answer that question.
We have bloggers writing about various topics ranging from political commentary, to technology, to food. We are about to hold a ceremony to recognize “the finest blogs in the Philippines.” We have people in the upper ranks of some international blog networks.
All this indicates that, yes, bloggers in the Philippines have matured - and the maturity of individual bloggers likewise reflects on and hopefully trickles down to the collective maturity of the Philippine blogosphere.
There will be individual bloggers that epitomize how blogging in the Philippines has matured. We just hope that more examples come up in the future.
Pesonalized content is definitely going to be where marketing and industries are headed. The idea of being able to get real-time news, rumors and reviews from your peers rather than spoonfed ads and campaigns by traditional marketing methods are what elevates blogs to the next level.
I think that the blogging community is not at the mature level yet but we are in the age where we now know what we are doing and are equipped with the tools to do it.
I predict companies to turn to us, bloggers, to market their products as they diversify from the “overcommunicated” media.
