Overclock your Graphics Media Accelerator

I’ve tried playing WarCraft 3 on several netbooks and the graphics wasn’t any good but what can you expect from an Intel GMA 950 chip?

GMA Booster though is promising up to 2.4x better performance by overclocking the embedded graphics chip. Though they say that the GMA950 is actually underclocked what they’re doing is just bumping it up to normal speeds.

gma-booster

Anyway, I tried it on one of my netbooks and there was some improvements with the benchmarks. FPS on fullscreen texture rendering went up 11.5% which isn’t much. Will need to try other benchmarking tools and run a round of DOTA again.

Do check it out and see if you get better results.

Will this shorten the life of a netbook or invalidate its warranty?

I was never really a fan of overclocking, wrecked two good graphics cards because of it. ;)

It’s a novel idea but wouldn’t this be phased out one the GN40 chipset get a much more widespread adoption?

Overclocking can cause overheating which will start large fires, right?

    Warning: Overclock with care.

wheres the disclaimer, doing this may void your warranty and cause your processor to overheat and be permanently damaged?

I couldn’t trust this GMA thingy for gaming that I’d replace it with true gaming notebooks carrying either nVidia or ATI chipsets.

Ugh, Tried this out before. I really hate the 7 day thingy. The developer just want more ad impressions on his site. AdBlock to the rescue!

Performance gains are little to none on some games, so your mileage may vary greatly.

I recommend overclocking your Graphx card if one has a very efficient cooling system. In case of laptops, I don’t recommend overclocking.

Its nice to know that it is possible to play DOTA in netbooks, its the only thing that torn me from laptop to netbook.. hehehe.. :D
Yeah, it is really nice to know that Sir Abe plays DOTA. I hope you have a PLDT Bnet account. Lets pawned each other up.
    hehehe…

Please update us about this experiment so that we’ll know if you can comfortably play DOTA in a netbook.
    Interesting post.

gma booster does not overclock, it will just unlock the 400mhz capability of gma 950.
