Canon 550D: Up close and personal

Listen to article

One of the latest dSLR in Canon’s line-up is the EOS 550D. It arrived in the Philippines sometime in late February and we only got the chance to get a sample unit from Canon Philippines to test last week.

Some of the highlights of the Canon 550D are the 18MP sensor, a 6400 ISO and up to 1080p video recording.

It also has Live View and a burst rate of 3.7 frames per second. Also referred to as the Digital Rebel T2i, the 550D squares off with the 7D in HD videos.

Here are some shots I took of the Canon 550D (right) beside the Canon 7D (left). Will be bringing both cameras and testing them around to check both the still image and video recording performance.

The Canon 550D kit (18-55mm IS) may retail for aorund Php54,950 while the body is around Php49,950 (of course, you can get it cheaper in Quiapo and gray-market sellers). Time permitted, I’m hoping to be able to do a review of this in the coming weeks.

It all depends on what is preferable for you.
The real thing before going on with the comparison, is the difference between their levels.
D90 belongs to the semi-pro lineup while the T2i belongs among the entry level dslr cameras.

i have a Nikon D3000 and a Nikon D90. my friend bought an EOS 550D just a week ago.. compared it w/ my D90 and still the D90 is untouchable.. and kudos to my D3000 it is STILL very usable and dependable

check this:

nikon d90 is still the winner. Canon 550d cant match the power of nikon d90.

That statement really doesn’t make sense you know (aside from pointing else where that is)

I think the 550d is more geared to the Nikon D5000 users, since this is the model of Nikon that can capture HD video.

You can check out this comparison by digitalreview.ca

It’s the D5000 vs the 500D (and the D90) but since the 550D is technically an update of the 500D… well you get the picture.

Sir Yuga, Liked your review about the Ricoh GXR, I was asking for the reseller’s name and location. I mean gusto ko bilhin pero ala akong time mag ikot sa stores. Pano kaya?
