Smart Bro Connected

The SmartBro installation team just arrived here at my place to hook me up. Took them about 30 minutes to install and configure my account and I’m now running on Smart Bro (Just one of my desktop PCs. My laptop and other PC is still on myDSL.).

First off, some speed tests:

PLDTPlay: 260.3 kbps
GlobeQuest Utilities: 235.0 kbps
2Wire: 99.50 kbps
TestMy: 113 kbps

Smart Bro top speed: 384kbps

Smart Bro Wifi

During the installation, I talked with the two tech guys and explained to them my arrangement with Smart. The tech guys were actually a bit curious why my account was different, at least that’s what the designated subscriber code says. They added that the subscriber code I am using is for internal use and usually assigned to COs. I told them I hope it does not affect my connection speed from that of a regular subscriber.

The above speed test results would indicate I am in no better luck than any other subscriber. Ok, on with the testing.

Btw, remeber that wifi incident last week at Malate? The techs did confirm to me that it’s something they’ve also encountered before and when they reported it back to the NOC, they were told that it’s for an experimental hotspot. Looks like Airborne Access is going to have some internal competition of sorts.

    Hmm…I hope the tests come out right. I mean, what if you do get a special treatment because of your special arrangement with smart, while the other normal subscribers are not so lucky.

    Oh well, let’s just hope they do get things right this time.

    50KB/sec = 409.6 kbps

    Hehehe! Wala lang!

    wow as speed your speed test says it slow hehehe. ako ramdam na ramdam ko ang slow connection for a week can’t download anything from rapidshare kasi dial-up speed nakakatamad pero kung may dl accelarator (flashget) ang bilis, grrrr nireklamo ko na to as usual they can’t do anything to help.

    Di kaya WE ROAM yun ABE? Yung Sa PLDT? We Roam is the wifi anywhere service ng PLDT diba so baka yun .

  13. Gravatar Icon yuga replied on May 27th, 2006 at 10:38 pm (13)

    WeRoam uses GPRS/EDGE so I think this one’s some hybrid Smart Bro indeed. Then again, a wireless router connected to Smart Wifi could technically exhibit the same thing.

    @ Kates

    The arrangement does not involve any of my existing or future blogs. All they need is some direct feedback from me.

    using smart bro for 4 months now, so far wala pa akong month na nakuhang good service. Mabagal, intermittent connection, no connection. Lahat na yata ng sakit nila naranasan ko na. Eto pa my internet was down for a month due to the super typhoon, when i called thier customer service for a rebate, di raw sila nagrerebate due to natural causes daw yun di raw nila kasalanan. Sabi ko naman oo nga di nyo kasalanan yung bagyo pero that does not mean na 1 month kayo bago magpadala ng technician dito to rehome my antenna to other working cellsite. Walang mabigay na reason yung agent, paulit ulit na sinasabi na due to natural causes blah blah meaning ayaw talaga nilang magrebate. Tawag uli ako to disconnect thier service only to find out that i have to pay the remaining months to my 1 year contract, so 1 year pa akong magtitiis. Until now ganon pa rin ang connection ko, naka 3 rehome na ako, 3 cellsites na nagagamit ko each one is worse than the last. Lalo na kung weekends kung saan lang talaga ako may freetime to play my online games, download speed is around 20kbs, that’s 20 kilobits per second. Saan pa pwedeng magreklamo, panloloko nato how come they expect me to pay a non existing service. Ngayon dumating na naman ang bill ko from smart bro, parang ayaw ko ng bayaran, paying them is like being robbed with your own consent. May groups ba na pwedeng salihan paran icomplain tong smart bro nato, siguro if we all stand as one, makikinig tong smart bro nato. I just want to be disconnected para maka avail na ako ng magandang service.

    globequest:1670.14080 kbps

    which means you can download at 208.77000 KB/sec

    PLDTplay: 131072 kbps Bandwidth Test Results : 128 Mbps

    tanghali pa yan, nag-fluctuate minsan taas baba pero ndi naman malaki ang difference puede na rin. pagdating ng gabi mas mataas ng konti. Pero may time na around 300 kbps lang.
    At least ndi lang talaga napuputol. Tsaka medyo ok yung agent and installer ko, they made sure na malakas ang signal at maayos ang installation and configuration. Sa iba kasi basta magkabit lang eh. It took them 1.5 hours to install dito sa bahay.

    smartbro is a shared network with direct line of sight. All users connected within the radius of smarts tower are sharing the same public ip, which means, the more we are connected the slower we get.

    A piece of advice, wireless connection is not safe. Plus there are many disadvantages. Im sure you guys know what i mean.

    *2888 thats their number (Asterix before the 2, not omission)

    Worth it if you are always on the net or have a computer shop…coz regular smartbro bandwidth cant cut it, especially this year Ive noticed more and more subscribers in my area…eg….lower bandwidth for me. I shall be upgrading soon

    PROPERLY HELP YOU**

    The answers to the following questions are very important when posting asking for assistance, if you answer them accordingly it will save you and us alot of time in helping you get your connection optimized quickly and easily.

    1. Download Cablenut.

    2. What type of connection do you have? i.e. 56K, ISDN, DSL (PPPoE or not), Cable etc.

    3. Who is youe ISP and what is your advertised speed from them? i.e. Cox.net & 3000/256 - this is advertised in kilobits per second. If you don’t know your caps please provide us with a link to your ISPs homepage.

    4. What are your current settings now? Do a TCP/IP Analyzer test and copy and paste the results (remember to XXXXX out your IP address) here.

    5. What kind of speeds are you getting now? Do 10 speed tests from Speakeasy (choose the location nearest to you) clearing your internet temp files prior to each test, and give us the average of your top 5 tests. This will give you a good baseline to go by but remember speed tests are not 100% accurate.

    6. Please tell us your operating system i.e. 95, 98, 98SE, ME, 2K or XP.

    IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND
    Remember your goal is to get about 90% of your rated speed, sometimes depending on factors beyond your control i.e. routers, servers, line quality etc. it just isn’t gonna happen, no matter what you do.

    The following are my suggested settings in Cablenut for 2K & XP:

    DefaultReceiveWindow = multiply your ISPs download caps in kilobytes by 1024
    DefaultSendWindow = multiply your ISPs upload caps in kilobytes by 1024
    DisableAddressSharing = 1
    InitialLargeBufferCount = 100
    InitialMediumBufferCount = 240
    InitialSmallBufferCount = 320
    LargeBufferSize = 81920
    MaxFastTransmit = 64000
    MediumBufferSize = 15040
    PriorityBoost = 0
    SmallBufferSize = 1280
    TransmitWorker = 32
    FastSendDatagramThreshold = 4096
    EnableFastRouteLookup = 1
    EnablePMTUDiscovery = 1
    IgnorePushBitOnReceives = 0
    GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize = use the calculator to find your best value*
    MaxFreeTcbs = 8000
    MaxHashTableSize = 16384
    MaxNormLookupMemory = 5000000
    SackOpts = 1
