Xiao TIP-521 Digicam comes with a Printer!

It’s like the Polaroid all over again. Japanese toy company Tomy launched this new point-and-shoot camera, the Xiao TIP-521, with a built-in printer in tow.

Not bad for the 5 megapixel digicam which was launched in Japan yesterday. I’m not really sure though is this device leans more on the toy category or the gadget section, noting that the manufacturers is a toy maker.

xiao camera

- 2.48-inch LCD screen
- 5 megapixels
- 4x digital zoom
- infrared port and support of SD/SDHC memory cards
- 2×3 inch print size at 313 dots per inch
- 149.5mm x 74.5mm x 25mm

Retails for an equivalent of $320 while a sheet of printer paper costs $0.4 or about Php20.

Hi yuga, when I was in CEATEC Japan 2 months ago I saw a prototype of this really small gadget that prints nice photos. I think this camera uses the same technology.

Sadly, this is the reason many traditional camera shops in Japan are feeling the pinch. People don’t buy cameras from camera shops anymore, but from electronics and computer shops.

I am so loving this digicam. Perfect for a person like me who doesn’t have much time having a stop over kodak printing shop.

@brb – the market in Japan is totally different from anywhere else and I guess “fads” are more prevalent there too. I’m guessing this camera will not go out of their shores.
