Samsung unveils WiFi-only model of Galaxy Camera

Listen to article

The Samsung Galaxy Camera, though a unique and exciting proposition, isn’t exactly a huge hit to consumers because of some of the things that’s going against it. One aspect in particular that didn’t endear to the buyers is its asking price. Sammy’s looking to fix that by unveiling Wi-Fi only version of their Hybrid device.

As we all know, having a 3G/4G capability on any device equates to a higher asking price. With that taken away we can probably expect a more competitive pricing from this model. By how much you might ask? Well, that remains to be known for now.

Other than the omission of the data functionality and the model number (EK-GC110), everything else remains unchanged. It still possess the same engine under the hood which consists of 1.4GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM and will run on Android Jelly bean out of the box.

Wifi only devices cannot be used as a phone due to lack of cellular connectivity. U may however, download an app so u can use it for texting over wifi, just like what i did with my Wifi-only Nexus 7 tab.

If you use a sim, can it act as a phone too? If not, can you use the promos of networks to have unlimited data connection so that it won’t rely on wifi alone?

What do you mean when you say “act as a phone”? About the unlimited data, yes you can. :D

It is good for casual travelers. Most of the time when someone is out of the country, he turns off the data of his smart phone. Then only uploads the pictures (usually taken using a phone) at night or in the morning when he’s in the hotel, which usually have wifi hotspots.
