Meta privacy policy updated, Meta AI to use data for personalized ads

Listen to article

Meta has announced a huge update to their privacy policy that will take effect on December 16. Conversations with Meta AI will now be used to tailor personalized ads and content across all platforms.

As per Meta’s post, text and voice interactions with Meta AI will be analyzed to improve recommendations across their platforms. For example, inquiring about boxing with Meta AI should translate into boxing-related content, groups, and ads appearing on Facebook.

The policy update will also affect Instagram and WhatsApp, which also adopt Meta’s AI features. While the blog post was published early, notifications about this change will roll out on October 7.

Users will not have the choice to deny the new changes with how the platforms use your data. However, ad and content preferences can still be managed in settings.

In addition, sensitive topics are excluded from ad targeting. This includes religion, sexual orientation, political views, racial or ethnic backgrounds, and more.
