At least 3 bloggers have already asked me about the ongoing landrush of .asia domains — what i think about it or am I interested to join the rush. Surprisingly, this has been on my radar for months now but haven’t gotten much interest.
Here’s what I think this would boil down to:
- Most of the good single term domains will have already been taken or reserved.
- Interested applicants will eventually bid higher on domains that have multiple applications. You’d really have to dig deeper into your pocket if you are game.
- I don’t see short-term benefits except for vanity names.
However, if you already have a good brand and you want to expand your niche beyond the Philippine archipelago, then is is a good chance for you. Niche in the travel, food and entertainment sector will benefit a lot by grabbing strong names and vanity domains.
The running price for a dot.asia domain is $30 for 2 years which is not bad. I may eventually register a couple domains later depending whether I can think of any good ones not taken yet.
Anybody else had their radars on the .asia domains lately?
