Summaries of advantages:

OnePlus 8 Pro

  • Higher RAM on 12GB model
  • Higher storage on the 256GB model
  • Higher main and ultra-wide camera resolution
  • Higher front camera resolution
  • Better GPS capabilities

  • Slightly faster wired and wireless charging

Samsung Galaxy S20+

  • Expandable storage up to 1TB

Display

Starting with the display, both devices sport a large QHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. The OnePlus 8 Pro, however, supports 10bit colors, which offers better color reproduction compared to the 8bit colors on the Galaxy S20+. Both devices are also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, with the S20+ sporting Gorilla Glass 6, while OnePlus is yet to disclose which version of Gorilla Glass they used.

Performance

Both devices sports top of the line chipsets, the fastest LPDDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.0 storage. The OnePlus 8 Pro, however, can be had for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Where it falls, unfortunately, is its lack of MicroSD card support, whereas the Galaxy S20+ can be expanded by up to 1TB.

Cameras

The OnePlus 8 Pro and Galaxy S20+ have the same rear camera setup, but with different sensors. The OnePlus 8 Pro trumps the Galaxy S20+’ main and ultra-wide resolution while the S20+ beats the 8 Pro in the telephoto department. The same trend continues with the selfie camera, with the OnePlus 8 Pro sporting a higher 16MP front shooter compared to the Galaxy S20+’ 10MP. As always, do remember that megapixel count is not the be-all-end-all of camera quality, so take this with a grain of salt.

Connectivity & Other Features

While both devices have the same internet connectivity features, IP rating, and NFC, the OnePlus 8 Pro also comes with better Bluetooth support, GPS tracking, and haptic feedback. Meanwhile, the S20+ comes with Knox Mobile Security, a more secure ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, and faster USB data transfer speed.

It is, however, important to take note that the Philippine version of the Galaxy S20+ is locked to 4G only.

Battery & OS

Out of the box, the OnePlus 8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S20+ run on Android 10 with their respective skins laid on top. The battery capacity is also similar, both with 4,500mAh. It is worth noting, however, that the OnePlus 8 Pro can be charged faster thanks to its 30W fast charging support for both wired and wireless charging.

Price

The Samsung Galaxy S20+ is priced at PHP 55,990 in the Philippines, while the OnePlus 8 Pro is yet to arrive on our shores. However, we can expect Digital Walker to bring it in the country soon. For now, here are the MSRP of each storage variant of the OnePlus 8 Pro:

  • 8GB + 128GB – USD 899
  • 12GB + 256GB – USD 999

Based on the specs alone, the OnePlus 8 Pro offers more value compared to the Galaxy S20+. It has a better display, more RAM, more storage, higher resolution cameras, 5G connectivity (in the Philippines) and other quality of life features that the S20+ lacks.

That being said, the Galaxy S20+ is not a bad phone at all. It offers users a flagship experience, with all the bells and whistles you’d want. The cameras are also amazing, despite its lower resolution.
