Testing BPI’s QR code-based transfers

A few months ago, we wrote about how QR codes can provide a convenient and secure banking experience. This time we’re going to take a look at how BPI uses it on their new mobile app. Can it really offer fast and safe fund transfers? Let’s find out.

Before we get started with the QR transfers, make sure that you’ve downloaded the new BPI Mobile app for Android or iOS via the links provided. If you already have the app, make sure it’s updated so you can enjoy the new features.

When you open the app, you will be greeted by the login screen which also includes the Transfer via QR button, which works like a shortcut as it saves you a few taps if you’re going to transfer funds.

Tapping on the Transfer via QR option button will bring up two options for scanning QR codes, one is Scan QR which will launch the QR Code Scanner with the help of your camera or Import QR from Gallery which works great if you have already saved the QR codes in your gallery. (In case you don’t have a QR code yet, you can generate one inside the app and save it in your gallery.) Choosing either option will still require you to log in using your username and password or via your fingerprint, so it’s still secure.

Once logged in, you will be taken to the Transfer Money section right away. The account number of the person you will be transferring funds to is already placed with most of the digits hidden for security purposes.

If you’re using the new BPI Online website, the experience will be a bit different, but all you have to do is log in to your account, go to Transfer Money. Click on “Transfer to 3rd party”, then click on the QR code icon next to the account number space and just upload the saved QR code image from your computer’s hard drive.

All you need to do now is select the account which you like to transfer from, and enter the amount, and notes if any. When you’re good, just hit next and you will be asked for your One-Time PIN (OTP). Then enter the OTP sent to your mobile device to complete the transaction.

We’ve been using this feature for quite a while now and it has proven very effective in providing fast and safe transactions. Fast because we didn’t have to ask for the account number and double-check if we have typed it correctly. It’s safe as we’re not exposing our account numbers during the whole process. Lastly, the mobile transfers are cashless, with security layers in place.

Overall, we like the whole experience as it is seamless and less prone to errors. It’s also convenient because it saves you from queueing in the bank branch just to transfer funds. So if you have a BPI account and would like to experience a quick and secure way to transfer funds, then we recommend using the new BPI Online and Mobile app.

This “article/review/testing” smells like a PR post. Sana di niyo ginamit yung mga press photo na binigay ng BPI para hindi obvious.

And to BPI, napaka lame ng implementation niyo. Talagang nilagyan niyo lang ng QR scanner ang app niyo just for the sake of being able to say “we’re going digital via QR”.

We dont need qr codes. We want InstaPay and interbank transfers. BPI is moving backwards. Other banks are already in InstaPay. BPI kailan kayo?
