Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Hands-On

Listen to article

Samsung just recently wrapped their Q1 2024 Unpacked event, unveiling the new S-series lineup for the year.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra model stands the tallest in the lineup and is our main focus in our written Hands-On and first impressions.

Let’s dive in.

Design

In terms of its overall build and design; not much has changed here when compared to last year’s Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Samsung claims most of internal and external hardware components are made from recycle plastics, glass and aluminum, and for the first time the battery is made with a minimum of 50% cobalt.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra now also features a titanium frame in the vein of its fruity rival.

and it still of course features the S-Pen also made with recycled materials, which is very light and portable.

Overall the the S24 Ultra models do feel a lil’ extra sleek in this iteration unless it’s all the Titanium marketing going into our heads.

Either way, it’s available in Titanium Gray, Black, Violet, and Yellow.

And it still features an IP68 water and dust resistance rating to boot.

Display

It’s display is the same beautiful 6.8-inch QHD+ AMOLED 2X panel that delivers vibrant and smooth visuals with its 120Hz refresh rate.

It’s peak brightness reaches new heights at 2400 nits, which absolutely makes clearly viewing the display under direct sunlight extremely possible.

And on top of all that SAMOLED display is some new Corning Gorilla Glass Armor protection.

Performance

Being a big boy flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 made for Galaxy, now delivering Ray Tracing for games like Diablo Immortal.

Paired with a generous 12GB of LPDDR5x memory, this smartphone should effortlessly handle gaming and multitasking for productivity tasks with no hiccups.

For internal storage options, like last year, its available in 256GB, 512GB, and a whopping 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage options with no expandable storage available.

It also features an almost 2x bigger vapor chamber for better thermals, so we definitely see this guy topping benchmark numbers in our Full Review at a later date.

Cameras

The Galaxy S24 Ultra features a slightly updated quad-camera system, highlighted by a groundbreaking 200MP (f/1.7) main camera with OIS, followed by a 12MP (f/2.2) ultrawide, a 50MP (f/3.4) telephoto camera that also features OIS, and serves as the system’s 5x optical zoom, and lastly another 10MP (f/2.4) telephoto sensor with OIS which serves as its 3x optical zoom.

In-front we still get that 12MP (f/2.2) sensor for selfies.

Our Full review for this guys in under way, but for now of course the YugaNation gets some sample photos and videos to check-out below:

Software

For software, the S24 series ships with Android 14 skinned with One Ui 6.1 on top.
And it features a plethora of Ai features all around the interface!

From reconstructing your messages to make the tone of your messages seem more casual or professional, to transcribing your voice recordings and organizing and summarizing them as notes for better reading and viewing later on.

We can even encircle anything on the screen, maybe in an Instagram post to figure out what shoes the person in the photo is wearing; that’s Galaxy Ai and we’ll be exploring more if that in a later review.

What else we can tell you about the software for now is that, with the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung promises SEVEN years of OS and security updates for the entire lineup, further future-proofing the series to hopefully lessen their carbon footprint with the EU on every tech brands tail.

Battery and Connectivity

For mobile networks we still get 5G and LTE. We also still get BT 5.3, NFC, and GPS.

What’s new is the Galaxy S24 Ultra now gets coverage for up to WiFi 7.

Powering the the S24 Ultra is a 5,000 mAh Li-ion battery, and it gets support for 45W wired charging, wireless charging, and Wireless PowerShare, just like last year!
