While the platform has not officially announced the new feature yet, several users have already received a notification, “Audio and Video calls are here!”

It’s not enabled by default; thus users will have to enable the feature through in-app settings. Once there, users may specifically customize their preferences to specific circles:

    • Allow calls from people in their address book
    • Allow calls from people they follow
    • Allow calls from verified users only

Then the option to make a call will appear in the DMs. Tapping the phone icon in the upper right of a conversation will bring a dropdown menu for an audio or video call.

However, X has yet to officially announce this feature. At the moment, it is uncertain whether this feature will be available to all users or limited to Premium users only.
