ASUS VivoBook Series Hands-On

ASUS launched its latest iteration of the VivoBook laptops at CES 2020. The brand flew us to their headquarters in Taiwan to have a first-hand experience of the notebooks. Check out the lineup’s eye-catching array of colors, sleek looks, and specs under the jump!

ASUS’ VivoBook lineup of laptops come in a host of colors; the S Series ranges from Resolute Red, Gaia Green, Dreamy White, and Indie Black, while the VivoBook 14 (S413) and 15 (S513), they’re available in Indie Black, Hearty Gold, or Transparent Silver. On the other hand, the 14 (F413) and 15 (F513) come in Cobalt Blue, Dreamy White, and Bespoke Black. The brighter-toned colorways are certain to be head-turners, seeing that most laptops are in black, white, or gray. Depending on the variant, the laptop’s body is either made of an all-metal chassis or equipped with a plastic lid.

Not only does the Vivobook have several colors, but it also comes in a number of variants. Display sizes differ per variant; users have the choice in13.3-inches, 14-inches, or 15.6-inches. The laptops have slim bezels all around, and a webcam also resides in the top bezel.

As for the keyboard and trackpad, the S13, S14, and 14 (S413/F413) have similar layouts, while the other variants are slightly different. The S15 and 15 (S513/F513) have full-sized keyboards, complete with a physical number pad. Despite the physical number pad, they also come with the optional virtual NumPads.

Speaking of virtual NumPads, the S13 and S14 are equipped with that, and it’s displayed on the trackpad. Just like the other ASUS laptops that have the virtual NumPad, the feature can be activated via a small button located on the upper right corner of the touchpad.

Noticeably, the S Series laptops have an enter button that’s emphasized with a yellow border. ASUS mentioned that the color block is their take to appeal to a younger generation, reasoning that the Enter key is the Millenials’ connection to the internet. Each VivoBook also comes with a sticker sheet that users can design the enter keyboard and other keys with.

Situated on the left of the S Series laptops are the charging port, a 3.5mm audio combo jack, an HDMI slot, a USB Type-A port, and a USB Type-C.

Two more USB Type-A ports and a microSD slot sit can be found on the right side of the laptops.

Depending on the variant, the VivoBook S Series laptops are armed with an up to Intel Core i7-1065G7 (S13) or up to an Intel Core i7-10510U (S14/15/14/15). The 14 (S413/F413) and 15 (S513/F513) can also be equipped with the latest NVIDIA GeForce GPU, while the S Series can have up to an NVIDIA GeForce MX350 down to MX250. Each variant also has several RAM and storage options. Additionally, a sticker sheet for the keyboard and s sticker pack are included with each VivoBook. ASUS has not yet stated when the S Series of laptops will be available; on the other hand, consumers can expect to see the 14 (S413/F413) and 15 (S513/F513) to launch in Q2 of 2020.
