OnePlus 5 to receive Face Unlock feature

OnePlus sure gave their users some nifty gifts this Christmas. Two to be exact — The Oreo update for the OnePlus 5 and the announcement that the Face Unlock feature will also be coming to the device. We first saw this feature on the recently released OnePlus 5T.

The announcement came via an official tweet from OnePlus founder Carl Pei. OnePlus is known to listen to customer feedback and values the comments made by their users. As such this update was made possible due to popular demand.

The company was able to put this on the OnePlus 5 due to the fact that the Face Unlock of the 5T was purely based on software rather than hardware. While this is advantageous in a way that OnePlus could apply it to even older models, this feature is less secure than what we have with other devices like the iPhone X. Either way, unlocking your device will be faster and more convenient. As for when the feature will arrive on the OnePlus 5, the company has yet to reveal any official rollout dates so we just have to wait and see.
