Table of Contents
The Samsung Galaxy A22 5G comes with a slightly larger screen of 6.6-inch, while the POCO M3 Pro 5G has 6.5-inch. Both smartphones sport an FHD+ LCD screen. With the LCD panel and a resolution of 1080p, their displays are also expected to produce natural colors and brighter whites. Both also feature a 90Hz refresh rate for some smooth animations and transitions.
However, the POCO M3 Pro 5G’s screen is equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection against scratches. Glass protection is also an important factor to consider when looking at smartphone displays. Corning claims that the Gorilla Glass 3 provides up to a 4x improvement in scratch resistance compared to competitive aluminosilicate glasses.
Both smartphones are powered by the same MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G chipset and ARM Mali-G57 MC2 GPU so that we can expect the same level of performance on both. However, note that we can only determine the extent of their performance and thermals once we have both units for a review.
The Samsung Galaxy A22 5G comes only with a 6GB + 128GB configuration. On the other hand, those who wish to get the POCO M3 Pro 5G can choose from two configurations: 4GB + 64GB or 6GB + 128GB. In this case, both can offer as much as 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
Both smartphones also have a microSD card slot for easy expansion. However, the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G has a dedicated microSD card, so you can also take advantage of its dual-SIM capabilities.
Talking about the cameras, both consist of triple rear cameras. Both have the same 48MP (main) and 2MP (depth) sensors. Completing the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G’s camera set is a 5MP ultrawide lens, whereas the POCO M3 Pro 5G has a 2MP macro lens. An ultrawide camera delivers a wider field of view, while the macro is for capturing close-up details.
Meanwhile, for selfies, both have the same 8MP front camera.
Take note that these numbers don’t always equate to quality. We will provide proof of which camera is better once we test both units for comparison.
As for connectivity, the two are powered with similar specs, such as 5G connectivity, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, and dual-SIM.
The Samsung Galaxy A22 5G got Bluetooth 5.0, while the POCO M3 Pro 5G has an advanced Bluetooth 5.1. Although the difference between the two Bluetooth versions is not that huge, Bluetooth 5.1 delivers faster connection initiation, lower power consumption, and better signal broadcasting. It also features updates to GATT caching, changes to the use of the advertising channel index, and periodic advertising sync transfer.
For biometrics and security, you can unlock the screen via their side-mounted fingerprint scanner and face recognition.
If you have wired Audio peripherals, both phones also have access to a 3.5mm audio jack. However, the POCO M3 Pro 5G may have the edge over its competitor with its Hi-Res Audio certification for better sound quality.
Furthermore, the POCO M3 Pro 5G also carries added features such as NFC for secure transactions and digital payments and an IR Blaster that can be improvised as a remote control for TVs.
Both Samsung Galaxy A22 5G and POCO M3 Pro 5G have the same 5,000mAh battery. The former supports 15W fast charging, while the latter has a quicker 18W charging.
The Samsung Galaxy A22 5G is priced at PHP 13,990USD 238INR 20,210EUR 227CNY 1,736, while the POCO M3 Pro 5G retails at PHP 8,990USD 153INR 12,987EUR 146CNY 1,116 for the 4GB + 64GB, and PHP 11,990USD 204INR 17,321EUR 195CNY 1,488 for the 6GB + 128GB.
Which one to get?
It is evident that the more affordable POCO M3 Pro 5G has more to give than the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G.
For under PHP 12K, the POCO M3 Pro 5G gives you similar specs as the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G while offering you the perks of added features such as Corning Gorilla Glass 3, NFC, IR Blaster, Hi-Res Audio certification, and a faster charging rate.
The only things you’ll be missing from the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G, though, are the 5MP ultrawide lens and a dedicated microSD slot, which some people won’t mind.
