Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 will reportedly use Exynos 2500 (3nm) SoC

Samsung is set to begin mass production of its next generation of foldable phones next month, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and, for the first time, a more affordable option, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE.

The launch is expected around July, likely timed with the company’s next Unpacked event.

Samsung is reportedly in the final stages of testing its homegrown Exynos 2500 3nm chip and may use it ‘exclusively’ in the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The chip was originally supposed to power the Galaxy S25 but was dropped due to performance issues.

If the report turns out to be true, it would be the first time an Exynos chip is used in one of its foldables. Current existing devices like the Galaxy Z Flip 6 run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

With its chip business posting significant losses recently, a successful launch of the Exynos 2500 could help get Samsung back on track and set up future chips like the rumored Exynos 2600, built on a 2nm process.

According to Sedaily, Samsung’s Mobile eXperience division plans to produce 240,000 units of the Z Flip 7 and 170,000 units of the Z Flip 7 FE during the second quarter of 2025.

Production will happen in South Korea and Vietnam. The larger Z Fold 7 will be made in smaller numbers at first (160,000 units) suggesting Samsung is banking on the Flip models, particularly the new FE variant, to carry the lineup.

Historically speaking, the FE variant or the Fan Edition model is usually reserved for Samsung’s more affordable versions of its flagship phones.

Its appearance in the foldable lineup could be a big move toward making Samsung foldables more mainstream and accessible. Higher initial production numbers for the Z Flip 7 FE point to a wider release than previous limited-run experiments like the Z Flip 4 Bespoke Edition.

Samsung hasn’t officially announced a launch date, but all signs point to a July reveal, with full production starting in the coming weeks.
