Looks like Samsung’s cheapest Android smartphone, the Galaxy 5 i5500, is already selling in stores ahead of official launch.
One of the local stores (CMK Cellphones) sent us this unboxed photo of the Galaxy 5 and tells us they’re selling them at Php11,400 a pop.

The specs of the Galaxy 5 i5500 looks like it’s gonna be a hot among first-time Android user and could get the same warm reception when the Samsung Spica i5700 was first introduced.
My younger sister asked for this for her birthday. When we checked it out we were both turned-off kasi parang china-phone lang. The price is not so high but there are other Android phones that have a “worth it” factor.
@allan
rooting means getting access to the root account of the phone. Basically, you it means getting full admin access to your phone’s software.
im eying this phone since i discover it here. i’ll definitely buy this phone. good enough for my I.T life..saka na siguro ako bibili ng mas mahal kapag mas mataas na sweldo ko. haha!
@lolipown: what do u mean “root the phone”?
forgive me, andriod newbie here.
Let’s see what the i5800 Apollo has to offer – I think its the Spica successor.
why get this if spica is only a little bit higher with a bigger screen, this is a Corby in Android with higher price tag, just my 2 cents
hmmmmmmmmmm android not bad!!!!
nice but 2mp camera is a big turn off well expect na natin yan sa mga murang cellphone!!!
but for me ok to…..!!!
Alin kaya mas maganda, Spica or Galaxy 5…Sir Abe, I hope you’re going to review the Galaxy 5 and have a comparison review with the Spica…Thanks! :)
i don’t like its round corners. it looks so alcatel-ish. it’s just me.
uy eclair! ang mura nito ah! kaso tempting din ung top of the line androids! ipon mode
@allan
root the phone then App2SD
FM tuner argh… Want that on the spica
Hopefully, Android OS updates won’t stop at 2.2 for the low-spec models like what some rumors say. Buyers would hate to find out later that the spanking new phone they bought can no longer be updated because it doesn’t feature a high-res screen, processor or large RAM/ROM.
medyo mababa ung internal memory.
pano kung mahilig mag down load? is there an application that can direct your downloads to be save sa memory card?
Capacitive or resistive?
Nice! Cheaper that the Xperia Mini.
cool! ;)
cool!;)
@abeolandres is that gonna be stuck at 2.1 or can it go to 3.0 eventually?
@tjmanotoc probably can do 2.2 but not 3.0
@abeolandres hay android limitations. may mga mura nga na units but…
@tjmanotoc the patikim strategy, hehehe
@abeolandres does galaxy 5 good for browsing?
