A new mobile phone launched last week with an interesting proposition — two SIMs running on the same phone at the same time. While this idea is not actually new in the Philippines, Verzio wants to penetrate a the aggressive mobile market in the country.
Funny thing happened when I was heading for the press launch last week — got stuck in traffic due to a downpour and when I got the only remaining parking spot near the place, the security guard turned me away (he says it was reserved for another resto). So I headed back home. *heh*
Anyway, dual-sims have been around for ages. Enterprising mobile vendors in GreenHills have been selling them for years while others hack existing (esp. Nokia models) phones to be able to support two SIM slots. In fact, there have been mobile units which offer triple and even quad SIM (yup, 4 SIM cards in one phone!) from China spotted at VirraMall.
What Verzio is trying to do is addressing the growing market of dual-SIM culture in the Philippines. One model, the Duplii, is even 3G capable. Because of the eat-all-you-can promos being offered by Smart, Globe and Sun, consumers are encouraged enticed to carry an extra SIM card or sometimes even have two phones altogether.
So, it’s only economically sound to just get a single phone to hold your 2 SIM cards right? Well for most people, maybe yes. However, I can also see several reason why people have 2 numbers:
- One is a public number and one is a private number. (me!)
- Others have a personal number and another office number. (24/7 tech support, people working for telcos or related industries)
- Some have a dedicated number just for their special someone. Or, the other secret special someone (aha!).
- Hard core SMS users who only have Php15 a day budget for texting. (Text-chatters popularized by Sun Cellular’s All-Day All-Night Promo)
- And those who don’t actually need two numbers but are more gravitated to having two phone units because of specific features. (A QWERTY or Smart phone and a regular slim phone.)
The Verzio Duplii retails for P14,990 (US$ 350) while the Verzio Twinn, P11,990 (US$ 280). As for me, the benefit of having two phones is that I can turn off the other (public) one when I don’t want to be disturbed. *guilty*
It will be interesting to learn how much percentage of the market segment can Verzio attract — the selling point being it’s a cheap dual-SIM capable phone. So, let’s take a quick poll from our readers here who have 2 mobile numbers. Will you go for a Verzio or stick with your 2 mobile phones.

hi there yam! nabasa ko na po ung txt u, kaso ala pa me load kaya di me makareply, bukas po magload nako,:-). with regards to your question, di ko po talaga mapagana ung mms settings ng smart sa duplii, dinala ko na din sa smart business center pero di daw nila supported pa. ung gprs naman, try mo punta sa settings, then goto data profiles, then edit data profile, then select smart gprs, sa IP, type u 010.102.061.046, un po kasi ginawa dati ng taga smart po. pero pag globe ok naman nakapagsend pa nga me ng mms. ung smart ko nilagay ko na lang sa nokia n82 ko po. hope na natulungan po kita.

Guys, check out the new brand of dual SIM – TORQUE. Heard from retailers in MOA that chief engineer of Verzio Duplii is now with TORQUE. I searched it in the web and can see 4-5 models in their website. Maybe a better alternative? Pls comment…
Guys, have you heard of new upcoming brand TORQUE in the market. Most retailers in MOA are now recommending this brand as they say it’s their fastest selling due to price and quality. I asked Verzio they say better get TORQUE as Verzio is not releasing phones anymore for almost a year now. Pls give comments.

I’m planning to get a Verzio phone kaya i checked if ok the unit, LOOKS LIKE NOT GOOD THE PHONE MORE PA, THE AFTER SALES SERVICE… I think the after sales people are not that service oriented… Yes, one factor yan to get the company looses sales… too bad for the company.. To the stockholders of VERZIO Phone, better change your service personnel or you company will be FUCKED UP!

i went to sm pampanga and robinsons san fernando before and i found out that verzio twinn is out of stock.. i saw verzio duplii being sold at 4950-4970 at edgecom.. do you think it’s worth it? wooh.. if only duplii is priced a bit lower, i might buy it..

top… ms ok po ang verzio sa fake na fones… bt i suggest get a duplii rather than a twinn mas matibay kc (plus radio n 3g) and konti lang ang price difference… another tip (if u really want a twinn)… sa service center ka bumili wag sa makro… just in case mgkatopak ang fone mo… may option ka na mag upgrade to duplii
sino po nakakaalam kung saan sa pampanga makakabili ng verzio twinn? wag lang sa makro.. masyadong malayo sa san fernando yun eh.. may nakita kasi akong verzio duplii and it is being sold at P5,190.. tanong ko lang po, mas desente naman po ba yung quality niya kaysa sa mga fake nokia ? thanks ^^
