5G next-gen cellular data network gets a logo

While we’re still yet to fully take advantage of 4G / LTE technology, the upcoming next generation of cellular data networks gets an identity through an official logo.

The future of mobile data will be known as “5G” and frankly, it’s still years away. 3GPP — the organization that governs cellular standards — made that name official with an announcement of a new formal 5G branding.

The 5G branding tries to veer away from the confusing 4G / LTE label of current telcos. For example, 4G is used for HSPA+ networks since, theoretically, they can reach the speeds of LTE. LTE, furthermore, has a different progression like LTE-Advanced or LTE-A.

5G may not come soon to our everyday life yet as the initial 5G Phase 1 specifications release is until late 2018. As to when it will land in the Philippines? We don’t know yet but at least it has a logo.
