Amazon launches 8 new Echo devices

Amazon has just announced that they will be releasing 6 new Echo devices, and 2 new Day 1 limited edition devices. Amazon Echo is a smart speaker developed by Amazon and has a number of variants under its umbrella. The new Echo devices announced by Amazon, namely an all-new Echo, Echo Flex, Echo Dot with Clock, Echo Show 8, Echo Studio, and Echo Buds.

The all-new Echo with an updated fabric design of the fabric with new colors such as Twilight Blue, Charcoal, Heather Grey, and Sandstone. It now uses an audio architecture based on the Echo Plus’ design, including a 3-inch woofer.

The Echo Flex allows consumers to make use of Alexa; it is a device that can be plugged into any electrical socket to use Alexa’s features. It comes with a speaker and a USB port.

On the other hand, the Echo Dot with Clock is a smart speaker equipped with a clock to set alarms with. The device’s brightness levels can also automatically adjust with the light in the room. The Echo Show 8 is an 8-inch HD smart display that has speakers and a built-in camera shutter. It also supports Alexa and can play videos from a vast selection of VOD services.

Echo Studio

As for the Echo Studio, it is a sound system with five built-in directional speakers to deliver a 3D audio experience using Dolby Atmos and Sony’s 360 Reality Audio. It houses a 5.25-inch woofer and 330w peak power. Echo studios also have a 1-inch tweeter and 3 2-inch midrange speakers, a 24-bit DAC and an amplifier. One, or two Echo Studios could also be paired with select Fire TV devices.

The Echo Buds are Truly Wireless (TWS) earbuds with Bose Active Noise Reduction and Alexa support. Echo Buds house two balanced armature drivers, rated for IPX4, and have tap controls. Each bud has a rated battery life of up to 5 hours, with an additional 15 hours (3 charges) on the charging case.

As for Day 1 edition devices, included in the lineup are Echo Frames and the Echo Loop. The Echo Frames are prescription-ready glasses that have Alexa support. It is voice-activated like most Alexa devices and has swipe controls as well. The Echo Frames do not have cameras or displays, but instead, have four beamforming micro speakers directed to the user’s ears. Amazon has also stated that the Echo Frames can be fitted with the user’s prescribe lenses.

Last but not least, the Echo Loop is a smart ring packed with 2 microphones, a small speaker, and a piezo haptic that vibrates when upon receiving alerts. It has Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant support. The Echo Loop is scratch and water-resistant, has a battery can last an entire day and can charge in just 90 minutes.

The new Echo devices are priced as follows:

  • Echo Dot with clock – USD 59.99 (~PHP 3,130)
  • Echo Show 8 – USD 129.99  (~PHP 6,785)

The new Echo devices are available for pre-order in the US and will start shipping later this year. Day 1 edition devices require invitations, and users may request for one beginning today, September 26, in the US.
