Corning has officially announced their newest glass protection, aptly named Gorilla Glass 6. The new Gorilla Glass will be replacing the widely-used Gorilla Glass 5.
We reported back in Computex 2018 that the ROG Phone is possibly the first ever smartphone to sport GG6. Although information about the new glass was still scarce during the gaming smartphone’s debut. According to Corning, Gorilla Glass 6 is twice as tough as the previous GG5, thanks to its added resistance and durability to drops.
The manufacturer is claiming that the new Gorilla Glass 6 has survived 15 consecutive drops from a 1-meter hight on rough surfaces and has better survivability at higher heights. Corning provided a promotional video (link here) where they demoed the drop tests they did with GG6. Then again, we can’t be certain of its toughness until it gets tested by third-party users. Only time will tell if GG6 really is one tough cookie.
