DDR5 memory prices have dropped this week after months of increases, with some kits seeing cuts of up to $100 in the US. While the lower prices are seen overseas, this may also affect the Philippine market in the coming weeks as local sellers might adjust their pricing.

Recent listings show that 32GB DDR5 kits, which were priced above $450 before, are now selling for around $370 to $380. Smaller 16GB kits also dropped to around $220 from about $260. The price cuts are more noticeable on Corsair memory products, though other brands also saw small changes.
The drop comes as the memory industry reacts to Google’s TurboQuant algorithm. This new technology reduces memory use in AI workloads by compressing data, which may lower the need for large memory capacity. Some reports say this could affect demand, leading to lower prices.
However, experts have mixed views, and it is still unclear how much TurboQuant will change the market. Some believe demand for memory will remain strong.
For Philippine buyers, prices may not drop right away due to import costs, taxes, and existing stock in local stores. Still, if global prices continue to go down, local prices may follow over time.
For now, those planning to upgrade their PCs may want to keep an eye on prices in the coming weeks.
