DITO updates DICT on third telco roll-out

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) called for a closed-door discussion with DITO Telecom to tackle the status of the telco’s roll-out program.

DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan called for the meeting, stating that the “DICT was concerned about the capability of DITO to fulfill its commitments as July is six-months away.” Present in the meeting, along with Honasan, were DITO Chief Executive Officer Dennis Uy, DITO Chief Administrative Officer Adel Tamano, and DITO Chief Technology Officer Rodolfo Santiago.

In the meeting, the third telco updated the agency with its projects, including tower building activities, secured deals for infrastructure development, construction updates on network operations centers, the roll-out of crucial infrastructure, as well as projected timetables.

With the discussions made, Honasan added then, “[based on our discussions], I am satisfied that given the updates by the three top executives, DITO is on its way to deliver on its promise of cheaper and more efficient service to the subscribing public.”

DITO Chief Administrative Officer Adel Tamano stated, “As we have been assuring the public, we are on track to meet our year-one commitment to the government and to the Filipino people to provide world-class telecommunications services.

Secretary Honosan also advised DITO to keep the agency updated on all the developments being made. The DICT is looking into ensuring that DITO Telecomm will be able to deliver its promised 55mbps internet speed and the more than 80-percent coverage of the population within the mandated five-year period.
