EDSA rehabilitation project halted by President Marcos

Listen to article

The EDSA rehabilitation project has been put on pause by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Initially, it was set to begin on June 13. However, Marcos said that the project needs to be studied for a month.

The time allotted is said to be used to find means to make the process quicker. Again, this is one of Metro Manila’s major national roads. This move was said to ease the burden of the commuting public.

In other words, the three-year project is only to be reassessed now. Authorities will be evaluating construction methods to help speed up repairs while lessening concerns over traffic congestion.

With Marcos’ suspension, the odd-even traffic management scheme supposedly starting on June 16 will follow. Officials are now currently looking to shorten the project duration from a three-year timeline to six months to a year.

The MMDA have also clarified that they will continue to implement the existing number coding scheme. For context, the EDSA rebuild was in progress to replace damaged pavement with reinforced concrete for durability.

The initial plan was for repairs to be carried out in segments, starting with the stretch from Pasay to Shaw Boulevard. Now, we’ll have to wait for more details on this matter as it’s a developing story.
