If you’re paying for YouTube Premium to enjoy ad-free videos, you might have noticed something strange lately, ads are slipping through. Several users on Reddit have reported that their Premium subscription isn’t working as intended, with ads appearing despite paying for the service.

The problem has reportedly been ongoing for weeks, but Google only recently acknowledged it on its support page. The company confirmed that it’s investigating the issue but has yet to share any details on what’s causing the glitch.
Interestingly, some users believe they’ve found a clue. One Premium subscriber claimed their account had been automatically switched to Premium Lite, a cheaper plan that still serves ads. Premium Lite costs $7.99/month (PHP 456.53), compared to the $13.99/month (PHP 799.36) full Premium plan, which removes ads entirely.
Google, however, hasn’t confirmed if accounts were mistakenly downgraded. And from a business standpoint, it doesn’t make sense to force users onto a cheaper plan, suggesting this could just be a technical hiccup.
For now, all we can do is wait for Google to roll out a fix. If you’re on YouTube Premium and still seeing ads, check if your plan was accidentally changed.
