According to Google, all students from APAC countries are invited to join a live fact-checking battle for the chance to compete against top students across Asia. The challenge is part of a year-long verification campaign targeted at educating students and raising awareness around how to spot misinformation.

In teams of two or three people, the members will be challenged with intense quizzes putting their fact-checking skills to the test. With three challenges back-to-back live, each team will have 15 minutes to complete each challenge. Winning teams from each bracket will enter the finals to be held during Google’s annual Trusted Media Summit—which is meant for the more advanced individuals who have nailed the basics of fact-checking.

Participating students will get official certificates from digital media and information group DataLEADS, a GNI partner that trains and supports journalists in their fight against misinformation.

Students who are interested in the University Verification Challenge may register here by September 23, 2021. The challenges will happen in seven languages including English, which will take place on September 25, 2021 at 4:30 PM.
