Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G now official

Qualcomm has added another 5G-ready mobile processor to its lineup, the Snapdragon 888 5G.

The Snapdragon 888 sports Qualcomm’s third-generation Snapdragon X60 5G Modem-RF System. It offers sub-6 and mmWave 5G support for all major bands worldwide, global multi-SIM, carrier aggregation, and Dynamic Spectrum Sharing.

The latest chipset is also equipped with the new sixth-generation Qualcomm AI Engine paired with the completely re-engineered Qualcomm Hexagon processor. Moreover, the chipset is expected to deliver improved performance and power efficiency for AI tasks with 26 tera operations per second (TOPS).  It is also further enhanced with the 2nd generation Qualcomm Sensing Hub, which combines AI processing for instinctive and intelligent features.

The latest 5G chipset of Qualcomm comes with third-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming equipped with updateable GPU drivers, desktop forward rendering, and frame rates achieving up to 144 frames per second (fps). Qualcomm also claims it to be the most significant upgrade in Qualcomm Adreno GPU performance.

This new release also aims to triple down on the future of computational photography and turn smartphones into professional-quality cameras. This could deliver a faster gigapixel speed Qualcomm Spectra ISP, allowing users to capture photos and videos at 2.7 gigapixels per second or roughly 120 photos at 12MP resolution, which is up to 35% faster than the previous generation.

For local wireless connectivity, the Snapdragon 888 supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.

The brands that have given their support for Snapdragon 888 include ASUS, Black Shark, Lenovo, LG, MEIZU, Motorola, Nubia, realme, OnePlus, OPPO, Sharp, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE.
